Preferences don't appear
  • herbshirtherbshirt September 2011

Thats about as much detail as I can give really. When I select Preferences either from the menu or right-click, the preference panel doesn't show.

A bad start to a new purchase.

    Hi,

Sorry you had a rough start, deleting your Preferences file manually should do the trick. I'll post some more info on how to do this in a tick...

See this post in the Dateline Tips and Tricks section of this Forum:

    http://support.machinecodex.com/discussion/84/what-should-i-do-if-the-preferences-wont-open-in-dateline

In essence, go to the Help menu and choose 'Reset Preferences'... please let me know if this fixes the issue for you or not.

    Cheers,

Big Fan of Dateline - but I also had noticed that I was having the same issue as herbshirt - while your link is constructive its also a little out of date... it refers to v1.0 of Dateline.

I'm guessing herbshirt is using a more recent version - In 1.4.1, that I have from the AppStore, I was unable to get any menu items - just the 'About this Application' splash screen would appear when accessing the Popup when holding down CTRL for the contextual menu.

So I bit the bullet and deleted the preferences from ~/Library/Preferences restarted the Dateline App - and, as described Dateline worked minus my settings but was able to access the Preferences tab successfully.

The trick is to replace the newly created prefs with the original ones, that I moved to the desktop - rather than the trash, with the Dateline STILL open - quit and restart Dateline, this caused Dateline to effectively re-read my original preferneces and hey-presto I now have the ability to access the Preferences and have maintained my settings as I like them.

So simply move the prefs to the desktop, restart Dateline, replace the newly created prefs with the ones from the desktop while Dateline is open, restart Dateline and all will be well.

It worked this way for me...
